CS Options

Under the current rules, BBA/BCS students cannot obtain any CS options, aside from the Software Engineering option. This is expected to change in either the 2017 or 2018 calendar years, to allow students to pursue any of the options listed below.

Due to the general elective and course constraints in the BBA/BCS program, and a rather small number of choices, most students choose not to pursue a CS option. Additionally, a CS option is more akin to a minor than a major, and lacks some of the clear advantages of certain math majors in more structured fields. The following requirements are applied for Honours BCS students, and may be modified at the discretion of the University or your academic advisors.

Pursuing one of these options will exhaust most, if not all, of your elective credits. Significant planning and foresight is required in order to graduate within the standard 10 academic terms.

Please contact your academic advisor at both UW and WLU if you are interested in pursuing any of the above CS options

Bioinformatics Option

Requirements beyond those for the DD plan:

  • All of: BIOL130, BIOL130L, BIOL239, BIOL240, BIOL240L, BIOL309, BIOL365, BIOL465, CHEM120, CHEM120L, CHEM123, CHEM123L, CS482,

This plan requires at least 4 extra courses over the standard 52 course requirement, and is generally infeasible for double degree students.

Computational Fine Arts Option

Requirements beyond those for the DD plan:

  • All of: CS349, CS488, CS383/FINE383, FINE100, FINE101/VCULT101, FINE229/GBDA229, FINE257,

Human-Computer Interaction Option

Requirements beyond those for the DD plan:

  • All of: CS349, CS449,
  • Two of: CS445/ECE451, CS446/ECE452, CS447/ECE453, CS454, CS458, CS484, CS485, CS488,
  • Two of: ENGL108D, ENGL293, ENGL295, FINE150, FINE257, INTEG251, KIN320, PSYCH207, PSYCH261, STAT331, STAT430,

Software Engineering Option

Requirements beyond those for the DD plan:

  • All of: CS445/ECE451, CS446/ECE452, CS447/ECE453,
  • Two of: CS343, CS348, CS349,
  • Two of: CS444, CS448, CS449, CS450, CS452, CS454, CS456, CS457, CS458, CS484, CS485, CS486, CS488,

Due to the coordination with the general graduation requirements for BBA/BCS students, this option is the most easily attainable.
